E3 News Recap: Day 2

Be sure to let me know of your thoughts below!

Snoop Dogg Will Appear in Tekken Tag Tournament 2

Quick, what is the first thing that pops into your head when you think of Tekken? You totally said Snoop Dogg, right? How could you not? Namco Bandai felt the same way, hence their decision to bring the Doggfather into TTT2 in non-playable form. He will have his own stage with ladies, dogs, and lowriders. Only thing missing is the copious amounts of weed.

The Last of Us Will Appear in 2013

Since The Last of Us‘ announcement time late last year, 2012 was lightly thrown around as a release window. Well, not now. Sony’s Shuhei Yoshida says that this title and God of War: Ascension will both be released 2013. A more concise date has not been nailed down. I want to get my hands on this game, but it looks like I’ll have to wait.

Last Guardian is Still in Development but is Having Problems

In what could have been a fantastic surprise, The Last Guardian was absent from E3. Given the title’s long development cycle and scarce appearances, this isn’t surprising. Sony’s Shuhei Youshida told Eurogamer that the game is still in development but is having technical issues. This game has scared me for a long time now because, and let’s be frank here, it shouldn’t take over seven or so years to make a game. Team ICO’s games tend to only be about six hours anyway. That might seem a little harsh, but do your business or get off the pot.

Mass Effect 3, Batman: Arkham City: Armoured Edition, Ninja Gaiden 3 are All Coming to Wii U

What do you want to play on your brand new Wii U? How about Mass Effect 3? It’s not like this game requires knowledge for the previous two! Bioware announced that the last game in their trilogy is set to release on the Wii U at some unspecified time. This is extremely odd to me. No other game has this big of a commitment, story-wise, and Wii U owners won’t get to have their saves transfer from ME1 and ME2. I’m hoping they add a comic for each of those earlier games, but even that might not be enough. This just seems like a lost cause.

Batman: Arkham City: Armoured Edition is also coming to the Wii U this fall. Rocksteady is adding a bunch of new features not possible on current platforms. The tablet will have the ability to set waypoints on the map, choose gadgets in real-time, solve puzzles differently using the touch screen, and plenty more. New changes like these will definitely make this game stand out, justifying its existence.

Ninja Gaiden 3 is the biggest turd I’ve suffered through this year, but Team Ninja is looking to change that with the Wii U version coming this holiday. Dismemberment is returning, more weapons are making an appearance, new Ninpo moves are included, a progression system is returning, AI is getting smarter, and the battles will be designed for replayability. Sadly, they probably can’t write out the offensively bad story. This all sounds like a Ninja Gaiden game to me, I just hope it works out. All of these changes makes me think that the game on PS3 and Xbox 360 probably should have been delayed for another few months to incorporate all of this. I guess some companies get a second chance.

Pikmin 3, Wii Fit U, New Super Mario Bros. U Announced for Wii U

Pikmin has been quiet for too long, but this franchise is making an appearance on the Wii U. The controller will allow the map to be on-screen at all times and more than one hundred little Pikmin can appear at once. Gameplay can also be recorded and viewed later and there will be new Pikmin types.

Following up the incredible success of Wii Fit, Wii Fit U is making its way to the Wii U. It will have some sort of meter to track how fit you are, along with the predictable exercises and use of the balance board and tablet controller. A small peripheral will also clip to your clothes (unless you run naked), allowing you to make progress outside of the game. This progress can be transferred when you return home.

That old 2D Mario grief-fest is returning, but its destination is on the Wii U. New Super Mario Bros. U looks incredibly similar to the one released on the Wii back in 2009, but Mario always brings a memorable platforming adventure, if a little predictable.

Paper Mario 3DS Coming to 3DS, New Super Mario Bros. 2 Gets Release Date

Paper is pretty two-dimensional, but that doesn’t stop Paper Mario’s next destination on the 3DS. Named Paper Mario: Sticker Star, this new adventure has an emphasis on stickers, granting different commands. The game is launching this holiday.

In case you didn’t have enough Super Mario Bros. on your console, Nintendo is releasing another one for your handheld. New Super Mario Bros. 2 is coming to 3DS systems August 19, 2012.

Wii U Controller Battery Life is Pretty Short

That massive Wii U controller obviously takes up a lot of power, so shorter battery life is expected. Nintendo said it will only last about two and a half hours and need to charged via AC adaptor. Welcome to the next gen!

Dawnguard Has a Release Date

Xbox 360 owners will have the ability to purchase Dawnguard on June 26th, a thirty day lead on all other platforms. That was short and to the point.
