Blame TGS for the boatloads of news this week!
BioWare Finally Reveals Dragon Age III
BioWare is making the third game in a trilogy! Who knew? Anyway, they’ve finally released a title for it: Dragon Age III: Inquisition.
We don’t know what platforms it will be on, but it will be running on the Frostbite 2 engine, the same engine that ran Battlefield 3. Aaryn Flynn, BioWare’s General Manager has stated about the title:
“We’ve been poring over player feedback from past games and connecting directly with our fans. They haven’t held back, so we’re not either. With Dragon Age 3: Inquisition, we want to give fans what they’re asking for – a great story with choices that matter, a massive world to explore, deep customization and combat that is both tactical and visceral.”
It has been given a release window of late 2013, but let’s hope they don’t rush it. From the outside looking in on this franchise, that seemed to be the problem with Dragon Age II.
Playstation Plus Coming to Vita in November
Sony has been rather aggressive with Playstation Plus within the past few months and they are furthering this push by tossing the service onto the Vita. This November, the Vita will see the same features the PS3 version of the service has: An instant game collection, discounts, 1 GB of cloud storage, automatic updates, and automatic Trophy syncing. Existing members will already have access to this at no additional cost.
I actually just got a free month of Playstation Plus so I hope I’ll get to see the fruition of this service on my Vita. They’ve made quite the argument for users to sign up.
Slimmer PS3 Announced
It was inevitable. Sony has shown off the new and slimmer PS3, complete with *gasp* a top loading mechanism for discs? Sorry to start the show with a show stopper, but you no longer feed your disc into the slot. Now, the top slides over, revealing a slot to place the disc in, a la the PS2 slim.
For the more numbers driven, it is now 25% smaller and 20% lighter than the current PS3. It is also set to come out in two different models. The 250 GB PS3 will be available on September 25th for $269.99 and include Uncharted 3: Game of the Year Edition, 30 days of Playstation Plus, and $30 towards Dust 514, Sony’s free-to-play shooter coming out soon.
The 500 GB will arrive on October 30th and include Assassin’s Creed III and a free month of Playstation Plus all for $300. Sony has also stated that the current PS3 model will not receive an old fashioned price drop.
Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 Plus, Muramasa: The Demon Blade Coming to Vita Next Year
Might as well re-release yet another Ninja Gaiden game, right? Similar to how Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus hit the Vita at launch, the sequel, Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 Plus is scheduled to arrive on the Vita early next year. That’s all we know!
Speaking of ports coming to the Vita, the Wii game Muramasa: The Demon Blade will be coming to the Vita on March 28, 2013 and will be bolstered by DLC. It has only been confirmed for Japan so fingers crossed on an international release.
Darksider 2, Dark Souls, Tekken Tag Tournament 2, and Borderlands 2 DLC Hitting Soon
Downloadble content aplenty!
Darksiders II pre-orders and Limited Edition owners will be seeing Argul’s Tomb releasing on September 25th for free, while those who didn’t plunk down early will have to pay $7. It has two dungeons and “one open area for an on-rails shooter.” I like the whole “pre-order to get the first piece of DLC for free” thing.
Even though Dark Souls wasn’t ever supposed to get DLC (not like it needed it), some is coming anyway. Titled Artorias of The Abyss, this is content from the recently-released PC version and it will come to consoles on October 23rd. According to the Facebook page, it will have “sprawling new maps and environments, new boss characters, enemies, non-player characters (NPCs), an arsenal of new weapons and armor and additional challenging content for unrelenting heroes to face as they return to the deadly world of Lordran.” That was a long way of saying that you’re going to be dying a lot more. You really hate yourself, huh?
Borderlands 2 has already been promised at least four DLC packs and this might be one of them. A résumé from employees at The Workshop Entertainment have stated that he has worked on “unannounced DLC” while another listed Torgue, weapon manufacurer in Borderlands, but had to take it down. As if that wasn’t enough, another level designer stated he worked on an “expansion for a highly successful triple-A FPS,” and with “more than 10 hours of gameplay.” So, expect it soon? I doubt this is fake.
To round out the quadruplet of DLC announcements, Tekken Tag Tournament 2 may have the best scenario in the lot. Dataminers discovered a few fighters on the disc last week, but Namco has kept good on their word and stated they all will be free. Starting on October 9th, Dr. Bosconovitch, Unknown, Slim Bob, Miharu, Sebastian and Violet will all be free fighters. Four new stages have also been listed as being free. It isn’t clear on whether or not this will release in a piecemeal fashion or all at once. Regardless, good on Namco. Take notes Capcom.
Remember Yaiba? Now it’s Partly a Ninja Gaiden Game
Remember that badass ninja/zombie/robot game Yaiba I mentioned last week? It has been revealed that it is partly a Ninja Gaiden game, with Ninja Gaiden Z being added as a subtitle. However in an unexpected twist, Ryu Hayabusa is the bad guy as he took the main character’s life. Revenge is the best motivation and now the main character seeks to destroy Ryu for what he has done. I’m really liking everything I’ve seen about this game.
New Playstation Store Coming in October?
A new model of PS3, so a new store, right? According to a slip on the Australian Playstation page, this could be true. Found in some text, it states: “To tie in with the launch, PlayStation Store for PS3 is set to get a new look from October 2012 too, making it even easier for you to find and download the content you love from the comfort of your sofa.” Whether this is an overhaul of the current store or just an expansion, it is an interesting find. I like the current format as it is but there is always room for improvement. Maybe it won’t be anything interesting at all?
Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD Remix Announced… Probably Doesn’t Have Your Favorites
Read the first part of that headline. Joy! Now read the second part. Boo! Square finally got around to revealing this after hinting at it in the recent 3DS Kingdom Hearts game, but I can’t help but feel bummed about it. This remastering includes the Final Mix version of the first Kingdom Hearts, the Re:coded version of the PS2 version of Chain of Memories, and the cutscenes from the DS game 388/2 Days.
Besides the first game, these choice are questionable at best. Would it be too much to as for Kingdom Hearts 1 and Kingdom Hearts 2? You know, like every other HD re-release out there? I wouldn’t mind Birth By Sleep either, but why not include the main games in the franchise? I think I know why though: Square wants to do a 2.5 HD Remix to include the other spin-offs and KH2 just to sell us the games in a couple packages, making more money. Well, guess what Square? I won’t be buying either because of these if that is the case.
Valve’s Hardware Endeavor Starts its Beta Next Year
Oh Valve, you’re so sneaky. Valve has been talking about hardware and how they should jump in for a while now, and it seems like we might know more next year. In an Engadget interview, their hardware designer Jeri Ellsworth stated that whatever mysterious box they are working on will be in beta next year. This could be what PC gaming could use to hit a broader audience, but I don’t know how that would differ itself from a console. Then again, I don’t own Valve so I have no idea. Would it be upgradable? Wouldn’t it have to be to be like a PC? I guess we’ll find out soon.
Okami HD Hitting PSN October 30th
The sure-to-make-you-barf-from-the-color HD re-release of Okami is scheduled to hit PSN on October 30, 2012. It will be $20, have a full Trophy list, and run at 1080p. Just looking at it makes me want to buy it.
Injustice: Gods Among Us Gets April 2013 Release Date
Since we are talking about release dates, my most anticipated fighting game Injustice has gotten a release window of April 2013. The Mortal Kombat team plus Batman seems like they took note of my interests… and probably like a million other nerds so I shouldn’t feel special.
Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time Out on February 5th
Available on both PSN and retail shelves, Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time has been announced that it will hit on February 5, 2013, the same day as Dead Space 3. Sly will support Cross Buy, meaning if you buy the PS3 version, you get the digital Vita version for free. It doesn’t work the other way around. Use your head to figure out why! Pre-ordering now nets you a few skins for Sly’s paraglider and Murray.
Both Dead Space 3 and this Sly game are both titles that have my morbid curiosity, but not my pre-order… yet. I’ll probably pick both of them up and hopefully I won’t feel burned out of $120. Sly needs some sort of vindication after Sly 3.
