Friday News Recap: 10/6 – 10/12

Playstation Store Set for an Overhaul

Tired of the old Playstation Store? Might as well start getting weary of it, because it is set to change soon. By October 23rd, the UK and North American digital stores will see a makeover, as shown by the screen above.

Besides just the UI, the functionality has been improved as well, as searches will be better and the game area will inform you on what else the game has to offer, including DLC and related items. Pages will scroll from left to right (called the “carousel”) and it will focus on “Heroes” from other games, as people like Connor from ACIII and Shepard from Mass Effect 3 will be prominently displayed.

I was fine with the current layout, but change is usually for the better. I’ll have to admit that it looks pretty sexy.

Injustice: Gods Among Us Confirms New Characters and Box Art

In addition to the current roster, Injustice officially added Joker and Green Lantern to its character list. Green Arrow was also revealed this week but, I’ll be honest, I’ve never even seen this guy.

On a side note, this is really starting to become the Batman fighting game featuring some DC heroes. We’ve got Batman, Solomon Grundy, Catwoman, Joker, Harley Quinn, and Nightwing and they far outweigh everyone else. I’m 100% alright with this, just so you know.

Borderlands 2 DLC Unveiled

Besides the Mechomancer being released a whole week early, the team over at Gearbox has officially shown the new DLC. Called “Captain Scarlett and her Pirate Booty,” it will be set in a new Oasis shanty town as “more Tatooine than an ocean.” A new currency called Seraph Crystals, sand worms, and sand skiffs will also be included in this $10 DLC (free if you have the season pass). It is set to release on October 16th, which is refreshingly soon.

Along with the trophies being leaked, this was also found in the PC’s source files:

“Legends speak of Captain Blade’s Lost Treasure of the Sands. Of a prize so great, that men would turn the sands red in pursuit of it. Of a pirate queen, courageous and deadly, who would stop at nothing to find it. Of a monstrous Leviathan. Of the Vault Hunters who journeyed to the desert town of Oasis, not knowing the horrors that would befall them.”

Borderlands players are a very loyal bunch, so there’s no doubt that this will sell plenty of digital units. Gearbox is savvy enough to make this a quality investment as well. A true symbiotic relationship.

Resident Evil 6 has On-Disc DLC… But it is Free

Dammit Capcom! What did I tell you about on-disc DLC?!? Go to your room and you get no supper!

Wait… this DLC is free? Capcom, you’re off the hook.

Earlier this week, hackers uncovered on-disc DLC for Resident Evil 6 in the form of costumes, a new harder difficulty (in case you really hate yourself), taunts, a character, co-op for Ada, and other things. It took a few days, but Capcom finally responded with the right answer.

All on-disc DLC for RE6 will be free of charge, with the first unlock coming soon. This title update will unlock the Nightmare difficulty, co-op for Ada, and it will allow players to play Ada’s campaign right off the bat. All paid DLC with be actual DLC, meaning you download the content instead of unlocking it.

This could have been a shit storm for Capcom if this was the usual on-disc DLC debacle, so it is good they made the right decision in giving it away. See? I’m more than happy to give a company props for making a good choice.

Rockstar Collection Inbound

We really can’t go one simple week without talking about a collection! Rockstar is the newest company to join the fray, putting Episodes from Liberty City (the GTAIV DLC), L.A. Noire, Red Dead Redemption, and Midnight Club: Los Angeles Complete Edition in one box. It is set to release on November 1st for $60.

This is quite the package if you are looking for a dollars-to-hours ratio. While I can’t personally speak for Midnight Club, the other three titles are filled with content and could easily last you for a few months.

Speaking of Rockstar, Grand Theft Auto V will be on Gameinformer’s Next Cover

It’s been far too long since we’ve heard anything on GTAV, but thankfully this silence is drawing to a close. Gameinformer’s own Andy MacNamara tweeted this:
“In NYC, about to check out December’s cover game #GTAV”

Right on the nose, but this simplicity is refreshing. Subscribers will get the first details when the December issue hits.

Seeing as though games like Saints Row: The Third have come out and given great experiences, I’m curious to see how Rockstar responds in this blockbuster title. I’ve been saying for a long time that every Rockstar game since GTAIV has been a test subject for something in GTAV, but I’d like to see how others will influence them. They’ll just probably do the regular “screw you, we’re Rockstar and we’ll do what we want” thing. That usually works.

Stop What You are Doing and Watch Tekken Ball’s Triumphant Return in Action

Oh man… prepare your balls because Tekken Ball is making a comeback. Judging by this trailer, Tekken Ball will be coming to the Wii U version of Tekken Tag Tournament 2 along with all the other endearingly stupid stuff Namco has stuffed in there. There is no word if it is coming to the other versions. In the meantime, play the above trailer on loop.

Mass Effect 3 Omega DLC Priced and Dated

If you’ve longed for a return to the sleazy hub that is Omega in Mass Effect, your wait is almost over. Mass Effect 3‘s new DLC set on that rock with be released on November 27th and be $15.

BioWare promises that this is the biggest DLC they’ve produced and it will be focused on Shepard aiding Aria in taking back her territory. I don’t think it will be that simple because nothing with Aria ever is.

Hopefully this pack will deliver a healthy story and give players a reason to return to the world of Mass Effect. Personally, I’m waiting until all the DLC is released or when Mass Effect 1 finally hits the PS3 to jump back into the series. It’s been far too long since I’ve shot a Reaper in the face.
